SINGAPORE MEDICAL COUNCIL
MEDICAL SCHOOLS RECOGNISED BY THE SINGAPORE MEDICAL COUNCIL - SMC
If you have a medical degree and wish to practise in Singapore, you need to check with the Singapore Medical Council to see if you qualify for a full or conditional registration. If you did not graduate from any of these medical schools, but have obtained a post graduate medical qualification listed here, you may also apply for registration.
Conditional Registration
Allows an international medical graduate (IMG) to work only in an SMC-approved healthcare institution, under the supervision of a fully registered medical practitioner.
Eligibility requirements:
* Medical degree obtained via a 'twinning programme' would be considered only if the clinical training years and final examinations are completed in the country where the Scheduled medical school or university is sited.
**The doctor should be in active clinical practice for the 3 years preceding the application for medical registration (i.e. 168 hours during 3 years prior to the application).
International Medical Graduate
International medical graduates (IMGs) refer to doctors trained overseas. IMGs holding a degree from a university specified in the Second Schedule of the MRA or a registrable postgraduate medical qualification recognised by SMC or exit specialist qualification recognised for specialist accreditation by the Specialists Accreditation Board (SAB), Singapore, may apply for conditional registration.
The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) would like to highlight that International Medical Graduates who do not hold qualifications which are recognised by the SMC, will not be eligible to apply for medical registration to practise in Singapore. This applies to all applicants.
SMC strongly advise all interested applicants to ensure that they fulfil all necessary criteria, including but not limited to, holding a qualification which is listed on the Second Schedule of the MRA or a registrable postgraduate medical qualification recognised by the SMC.

LIST OF REGISTRABLE BASIC MEDICAL QUALIFICATIONS
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1.One of the criteria for Provisional and Conditional registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) is a ‘Primary Qualification' from one of the following medical schools.
2.Only the medical programme from the listed medical school sat the time of addition to the Schedule is recognised. Any subsequent significant changes to the medical curriculum of the listed medical school may not be recognised, e.g. GCE Advanced level or Baccalaureate level entry to a Graduate entry programme.
3.Only the campus that was in existence at the time of addition to the Schedule will be recognised. Any new campus that is off-site from the recognised main campus, whether in the same country ora different country and whether the same degree is granted or not, will not be recognised by theSMC.
4.For twinning programmes, doctors must have undergone the entire duration of their clinical training and final examinations in a medical school listed in the Schedule, before they can be considered for provisional or conditional registration in Singapore. Graduates from the Malaysian, US and Canadian medical schools on the schedule must have undergone the entire medical training on the main campuses of the respective medical schools–i.e. both pre-clinical and clinical for eligibility for registration with SMC.
5. Graduates from recognised medical schools listed in the Schedule must pass the relevant national licensing examinations in the listed country, e.g. in the USA medical graduates must pass the USMLE and in Canada, they must pass the MCCQE to be registered to practise in Singapore. For any country that imposes such national licensing conditions on its own medical graduates, the corresponding conditions will also be required for registration to practise in Singapore.
6. Every application for medical registration will be considered based on its own merits.
7.The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) would like to highlight that International Medical Graduates who do not hold qualifications which are recognised by the SMC, will not be eligible to apply for medical registration to practise in Singapore. This applies to all applicants.
8. SMC strongly advise all interested applicants to ensure that they fulfil all necessary criteria, including but not limited to, holding a qualification which is listed on the Second Schedule of the MRA or a registrable postgraduate medical qualification recognised by the SMC.
