About the University

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high end talent with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility.

At present, the University has programs in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. Its long term goal is to recruit 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students. The University is located at 2001, Longxiang Boulevard, Longgang District, Shenzhen, to the south of the Dayun Park and to the north of Longxiang Boulevard, occupying about one million square meters.

The President is responsible for the management of the University under the leadership of the Governing Board, a system that is in line with international practice. This is a positive step towards a modern university system with Chinese features. The University hires first class teaching staff from around the world and those teachers that have been employed are mostly renowned professors and scholars from world class universities, including several Nobel Prize laureates and academicians.

The University is featured with an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy, a collegiate system, general education courses, multidisciplinary programs and a student-centered educational philosophy.

The University stresses the importance of academic links and global perspective. Currently we have concluded agreements with a number of prestigious universities to jointly nurture undergraduate and post-graduate students. In 2015, 40% of the first year undergraduate students participated in summer schools and other exchange programs.

In response to the call of the nation and the Pearl River Delta region for emerging and strategic industries, the University is planning to form a world class expert team and to forge a platform for international technology innovation in robotics and intelligent manufacturing, big data, new energy, and finance and logistics.

Up to now, 1,000 outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from China and around the world have commenced their study at the University. Currently available programs cover global business studies, economics, marketing and communication, finance, new energy science and engineering, statistics and big data, computer science and engineering, electronic information engineering, financial engineering, and translation and simultaneous interpreting.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK Shenzhen) is 45-minute drive away from Hong Kong and is an important centre of high-technology, logistics, and finance in Asia.

Shenzhen is a youthful city full of energy, where the average age of the residents is 28 years old (2012)

Admission

Studying at CUHK(SZ)

With an emphasis on bilingualism, general education, unique collegiate life and an international environment that promotes a global outlook, and a campus being planned in the picturesque and vibrant high-tech area in Longgang District of Shenzhen, CUHK(SZ) is going to be the top choice for students and their parents regionally, nationally and internationally.

Capitalizing on CUHK’s established strengths in a number of academic disciplines, academic programs to be offered by CUHK(SZ) are in line with global trends of higher education and are adapted to the industrial, economic, social and cultural development on the Mainland. These programs are regularly reviewed and their quality checked by the Senate of CUHK to ensure their fitness for the purposes of imparting cutting-edge knowledge and training first-class scholars and professionals.

Undergraduate Studies

The undergraduate curriculum is built upon a credit unit system, with flexibility and choices both in the selection of courses and in the sequence and pace of electives.The normative period of study is four years, and students have to complete 120 units and satisfy requirements under separate categories. The overall curriculum is as follows:

Program List for International Students

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, or CUHK Shenzhen, is established officially on March 21, 2014, approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE). The university is supervised under the “Regulations on Chinese-International Joint Universities” and led by a Governing Board with members from both Hong Kong and Mainland China. 

CUHK Shenzhen offers extensive English curricula in all programs, while students with interest in learning Chinese can choose to study Chinese language courses with a suitable level. All CUHK Shenzhen students successfully completing the offered programs in Shenzhen will receive Bachelor’s degrees from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Admission Requirements

1. General Requirements

Eligible applicants should hold foreign passports from a country or region other than Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan.

2. Entrance Requirements

Applications should possess any of the following qualifications:

• GCE (passes 3AL/ 2AL+2AS in one sitting)
• International Baccalaureate Diploma
• A recognised qualification, which qualifies them for admission to a university in the country/region (outside Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) where such qualification is originated (e.g. high school diploma plus SAT in USA, UEC/ STPM in Malaysia, ATAR in Australia, OSSD in Canada). Language Requirements

Applicants should have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in English. Below are the minimum required scores or grades for some of the more common acceptable international examinations.

Tuition & Expenses (For 2016 Entry)

• Tuition Fee: RMB￥ 95,000 (USD $15,000) per academic year
• Four-year On-Campus Housing.
• Monthly Estimated Expenses: Approximately RMB￥1,500 (USD $235) per month (Including meals, transportation, entertainment and miscellaneous.

Scholarships

All international applicants will automatically be considered for the admission scholarship along with admission decisions. Consideration will be based on applicants’ English level, high school academic performance and interview. Candidates may be asked to submit further supporting materials regarding financial circumstances.
