Message from the Dean, Prof. Yang GU

Welcome to the School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS). The creation of HSS has its aim to provide foundations in humanities and social science through its teaching for students to gain insights into the past, while enabling them to critically examine contemporary issues, and explore answers for a sustainable future, so that our students can be better positioned to respond to challenges facing China and the world.

We offer core courses of the University, ranging from language courses to General Education foundation and elective courses, and IT and PE courses. Our curriculum, as approved by the CUHK Senate Board, focuses on developing students’ all-around skills which are essential to their further studies. We are launching two new MA programs this year: MA in Translation & Interpreting Studies (MAT&I) and MA in Simultaneous Interpreting (MASI). In the next academic year, we will open a BA program in Translation studies. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of teachers with diverse backgrounds and experience who will engage our students, imbuing them with the joy of learning and nurturing them with broad vision of education.
